PETALS® uses a ProFractional™ laser treatment to eliminate damaged tissue and combined with your own blood will encourage the growth of new, healthy skin—often in just one treatment.
The ProFractional™ laser is customized by Dr. Molden for each patient’s specific needs and treats only the affected area while preserving the healthy surrounding tissue. With such a localized application, treatment is quick, comfortable, and effective, and patients can return home the same day to resume regular daily activity. The results are dramatic, with most patients reporting 100% improvement of symptoms within one month.

WHAT IS LICHEN SCLEROSUS?
Lichen Sclerosus is a rare, painful condition that creates itchy, patchy, white skin that usually affects the genital area in women, including the vulva, perineum, and anal area.
WHAT IS THE PETALS® PROCEDURE?
PETALS® is a non-invasive, in-office, non-surgical lichen sclerosus treatment that uses a ProFractional™ laser to eliminate damaged tissue. Your own blood is then injected to encourage the growth of new, healthy skin.
IS THE PETALS® PROCEDURE A CURE FOR LICHEN SCLEROSUS?
There is no cure for Lichen Sclerosus, but it can be effectively treated. Traditional treatment for Lichen Sclerosus includes using a powerful topical steroid, however, the response to steroid treatment varies, and it can have unwanted side effects. The PETALS® procedure offers an alternative to steroid creams.
YOU WANT TO SHOOT A LASER DOWN THERE!?
The ProFractional™ laser is customized by Dr. Molden for each patient’s specific needs and treats only the affected area while preserving the healthy surrounding tissue. With such a localized application, treatment is quick, comfortable, and effective.
IS THE PETALS® PROCEDURE PAINFUL?
Generally, no. We use a topical anesthetic cream to numb the area, and our all-female staff ensures you are as relaxed and comfortable as possible.
HOW MANY PROCEDURES WILL I NEED?
For most women, it only takes one PETALS® procedure to relieve their symptoms. Occasionally, some women need a “touch-up” to treat a small area that may have been missed.
DO I HAVE TO STAY OVERNIGHT IN A HOSPITAL?
PETALS® is an in-office procedure, and patients can return home the same day to resume everyday activity.
HOW QUICKLY WILL I NOTICE RESULTS?
Results are dramatic, with most patients reporting 100% improvement of symptoms within one month.
WILL PETALS® HELP ME REGAIN MY SEX LIFE?
The PETALS® procedure has been shown to eliminate the pain, irritation, itching, lack of flexibility, and the fusing of tissue that prevented women with Lichen Sclerosus from having intercourse. We have many patients who – before the PETALS® procedure – were unable to have vaginal penetration, but after PETALS®, were able to resume normal sexual activities.
CAN LICHEN SCLEROSUS REOCCUR AFTER THE PETALS® TREATMENT?
Unfortunately, there is no cure for Lichen Sclerosus. Because the PETALS® procedure targets only the currently affected area, it is possible that LS can develop in another untreated area. If that is the case, an additional PETALS® procedure or “touch-up” can safely and effectively treat LS-damaged skin.
HOW EXPERIENCED IS DR. MOLDEN?
Dr. Stephanie Molden has performed thousands of PETALS® and other laser procedures and therapies. She is a pioneer in Medical Urogynecology and Female Cosmetic Gynecology, and one of a small group of doctors in the region to complete a three-year fellowship in Urogynecology and one of the first in the entire country to be Board Certified.
